Ski resort worker finds engagement ring dropped by ‘nervous’ boyfriend from 118-foot suspension bridge

A ski resort employee in Michigan helped a “nervous” boyfriend find an engagement ring he dropped from a picturesque 118-foot suspension bridge while he was in the middle of proposing to his longtime girlfriend.

Trevor Van Camp is not a fan of heights, and never imagined he would go to such lengths for a proposal.

But, he figured there was no better spot than the SkiBridge at Michigan’s Boyne Mountain Resort after his girlfriend, Danielle Jenkins, sent him multiple TikTok videos showing off the illuminated suspension bridge.

Van Camp booked the surprise getaway and hiked up to the timber-towered bridge settled between two mountain peaks with Jenkins — but struggled to contain himself as he dropped down on one knee.

He was “nervous” and “shaken up,” in part because he’s “not a big heights guy.” But he conquered his fear because the moment “was solely for her,” he described in a video recounting their engagement.

Then, the glitzy engagement ring slipped between his fingers and plummeted down into the snow — 118 feet below the bridge. Van Camp balked in sheer horror while a good-natured Jenkins laughed it off.

“We panicked for a minute, and then we looked at each other and said, ‘We need to find it,’ ” Van Camp recalled.

The crew at the Boyne Mountain Resort gave the couple a “clearing” so they could scale the hill and comb through the snow for the lost ring.

Pat Harper, the resort’s night shift snowmaking supervisor, originally lent the couple a metal detector, before he and two other colleagues trekked through the snow himself to try and locate the ring.

“They promised us that they were going to find my ring. There were no ifs, ands or buts about that,” Jenkins said in the video.

Harper and his coworkers sifted through the snow “for probably 20 to 30 minutes” before they incidentally scanned over a pair of footprints — and the metal detector started to trill.

“I sat there for a minute and thought, ‘There’s no way you just found that’,” Harper said in the video.

He dug through the snow and down to the dirt, where he spotted the edge of the gleaming ring.

Around the same time, Van Camp and Jenkins were ready to call it quits “and head to Kay Jewelers to get a new ring,” before Harper swooped in with the ring in hand.

“We showed up at the resort, and Trevor finally got to put the ring on my hand. I give big props and kudos to Pat for doing that for us because he saved the day,” Jenkins said in the video.

The couple said they have plans to return to the resort to finish a full walk across the famed SkyBridge, and recount their whirlwind engagement to their loved ones.

Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
