As a beauty reporter and professional product tester who has spent more hours than I care to admit wrapped in cords, tangled in attachments and inhaling a light mist of heat protectant, I can tell you with authority: the Co-anda2x is the kind of tool that makes even the most jaded stylist sit up straighter. It’s smarter and sleeker than its predecessors — and yes, it’s absolutely playing in luxury territory.

Let’s start with what’s new. Dyson claims the Co-anda2x delivers twice the air pressure of the original Airwrap, thanks to its upgraded Hyperdymium motor. Translation: it’s faster, more efficient, and a lot more satisfying to watch as your hair practically vacuums itself into a perfect curl.
As someone who times her dry-downs and measures frizz levels (all in the name of science, of course), this is a pretty revolutionary stat. While I haven’t tried this specific model, I’ve spent years testing the brand’s acclaimed Supersonic and Airwrap.
The brand’s new Fast Dryer 2x and AirSmooth2x attachments are what elevate this model even more, allowing you to jump from damp to polished without reaching that crispy, over-dried feeling that cheaper stylers often inflict.
Dyson’s signature Coanda effect — the air-pressure wizardry that wraps your hair around the barrel instead of burning it between plates — is also more refined this time around. You receive two curling barrels that now spin both directions (a huge upgrade from the early days when you had to swap attachments mid-curl), plus a round volumizing brush, an anti-snag loop brush, and that magical AirSmooth straightening tool that mimics flat-ironing.
It’s essentially a salon’s worth of tools engineered into one space-age wand.
Of course, the Co-anda2x isn’t entering the ring alone. It’s up against both its older sibling, the Dyson Airwrap i.d., which we reviewed, and the very worthy Shark FlexStyle, one of my tried-and-true favorite styling systems. On paper, the Shark wins on price (about $249.99 compared to Dyson’s $749.99), and it packs serious power with an 1800-watt motor.
But here’s where the Dyson earns its keep: precision. The Co-anda airflow is thought to wrap hair more consistently, resulting in less heat damage.
There are a few caveats worth noting.
For one, Dyson’s new attachments are not backward compatible with previous Airwrap generations. So, if you’ve already invested in an older set, you’ll be starting fresh. The airflow is also more powerful, making it wonderful for thick or curly hair, but a bit aggressive on finer strands or when you’re working close to your ears.
The real appeal of the Co-anda2x, beyond the obvious glamour of the Dyson brand, is that it bridges that tricky gap between beauty innovation and usability. You don’t have to be a professional stylist to make it work, though you’ll feel like one after a few sessions. It’s a splurge, yes, but one that delivers on its promises.
The bottom line
And that’s really the crux of it. Dyson’s latest Airwrap Co-anda2x Multi-Styler and Dryer is truly a next-level, Oprah-approved experience. Is it the most budget-friendly? Not necessarily. But it delivers results and will save you the trip to the salon.
