“I feel great,” she told People. “I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally.”

Williams, 43, explained that her struggles with weight began in 2017, after she gave birth to her oldest daughter, Alexis Olympia, via an emergency C-section.

“I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be, no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,” she told the outlet.

“It was crazy because I’d never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at,” the athlete shared.

“I had never taken shortcuts in my career and always worked really hard. I know what it takes to be the best. So it was very frustrating to do all the same things and never be able to change that number on the scale or the way my body looked.”

After giving birth to her second daughter, Adira, in August 2023, Williams shared that she was able to lose the baby weight in just two weeks — but then it all came to a standstill.

“I never lost another pound,” she joked. “I just thought, ‘Gosh, I don’t know if I would ever be able to get back to where I needed to get to.’”

The 23-time Grand Slam champion decided it was time for her to try something else to maintain her weight goals. That’s when she began researching different GLP-1 medications.

“I did a lot of research on it. I was like, ‘Is this a shortcut? What are the benefits? What are not the benefits?’ I really wanted to dive into it before I just did it,” she told People.

After deciding to move forward with the weight loss medication Ro six weeks after Adira was born, Williams said she is now feeling better than ever.

“I just can do more. I’m more active. My joints don’t hurt as much. I just feel like something as simple as just getting down is a lot easier for me. And I do it a lot faster,” she explained. “I feel like I have a lot of energy and it’s great. I just feel pretty good about it.”

Last year, Williams embraced her postpartum body after welcoming her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian.

At the time, the tennis legend shared a photo of herself wearing a bikini while holding Adira and urging her fans that loving yourself is “essential” after going through pregnancy.

“I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life,” she captioned the Instagram post.
