Self-proclaimed ‘dopest lawyer in town’ busted for having dope

A prominent cannabis attorney who bills himself as the “dopest lawyer in town” found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was busted for drug possession and suspicion of driving under the influence, court records show.

Daniel Micah Mehler was caught with drugs after allegedly drunkenly driving around his girlfriend’s neighborhood in San Antonio, Texas, and throwing things at her house because she “was refusing to see him,” according to an arrest warrant obtained by MySA.
Mehle — who also calls himself a “leading advocate for individuals facing cannabis-related charges” — was found by police after a witness reported him just before midnight Friday.
He allegedly smelled strongly of alcohol and was slurring his words, which he blamed on a speech impediment. Cops also noted he was unsteady on his feet and his eyes appeared blood-shot and glassy.
An officer also discovered three small paper tabs inside of a gum wrapper, according to KSAT.
It’s not clear exactly what that substance was, but it was less than 20 units of a schedule 1-A drug, which includes LSD, cannabis, ecstasy and heroin, among others, per state regulations.
The lawyer was cooperative, cops noted, but he refused to participate in a field sobriety test, and was taken into custody.
Mehler was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was later released on bail.
Mehler describes himself on his website as a “leading advocate for individuals facing cannabis-related charges,” and has been practicing criminal law for more than a decade. Mehler is also involved in efforts to reform Texas’ marijuana laws.
He has “the dopest lawyer in town” plastered in large quotes on his site’s home page.
This weekend’s incident was not Mehler’s first run-in with the wrong side of the law.
In July 2024, he was arrested and charged with sexual assault, family violence and violating a protective — however all the charges were dismissed, citing insufficient evidence, by March of 2025, according to MySA.
He was also arrested for a DWI nearly 10 years ago, according to News4SA.
Mehler is scheduled to appear in court next month.
