Sean McDermott’s damning Bills warning with season suddenly going sideways

The Bills’ charmed start to the season has abruptly turned upside down after back-to-back losses to the Patriots and Falcons.

“Figure out things on offense, defense and special teams,” Bills coach Sean McDermott told reporters on Monday night after a 24-14 loss to the Falcons dropped the team to 4-2.

Drake London torched the Bills’ secondary for 10 catches, 158 yards and a touchdown. He nearly turned the game into a complete laugher but stepped out of bounds while diving for the end zone on the last play before halftime, keeping the Falcons’ lead at 21-7.

The Bills scored on their first possession of the second half but 21-14 is as close as they would come, as the offense bogged down the rest of the second half.

Josh Allen was under constant pressure and was sacked four times, while throwing two interceptions.

“We had our opportunities to take advantage of and we didn’t,” Allen said. “It sucks when you feel like two-thirds of your team (special teams and defense) are doing their job and you’re the team not to pull your weight. It sucks.”

There could be concern the Bills’ 4-0 start to the season was more smoke and mirrors built on an easy schedule.

Their wins are over the Ravens, Dolphins, Jets and Saints — teams with a combined 3-21 record.

The Bills now head into a bye week before returning for an Oct. 26 matchup against the Panthers in Charlotte.

“It’s gonna eat at me the next two weeks,” Allen said. “I mean, a lot of stuff to clean up.”
