Team USA supporters were decked out in their red, white and blue best, with patriotic ensembles taking over the Farmingdale golf club, including fans dressed as bald eagles.
Fans in support of Team Europe sported blue threads speckled with yellow stars.
Although the Americans got off to a strong start, thanks in part to a booming first shot from Bryson DeChambeau, it was Team Europe for much of the morning.
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton got Europe on the board after defeating DeChambeau and Justin Thomas, 4&3.
Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood gave the Europeans another point with their win against Collin Morikawa and Harris English, 5&4.
Europe got another point from Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg following their win over Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley, 5&3, for an early 3-0 lead.
The American duo of Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay led by one through 13 against Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland.
Despite a slow start for the Americans, U.S. captain Keegan Bradley believes the appearance of a special guest will provide a much-needed spark.
“We just had the president fly over in Air Force One, so I got a feeling things are going to turn here,” Bradley said on the broadcast.
President Donald Trump is currently en route to the Ryder Cup.
