Ryan McMahon embracing ‘whirlwind’ trade to Yankees

Ryan McMahon arrived in The Bronx during Friday’s game after the Yankees arranged for an Uber to transport him from Baltimore, where he’d been with the Rockies before the trade.

“Honestly, it was weird. I’ve been [with] Colorado for 12 years, but I think once I calmed down, I realized how exciting this was going to be, and just got really excited to get up here,” said McMahon, who started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk in Saturday’s 9-4 loss to the Phillies. “It’s calmed down, but off the bat, it definitely was a whirlwind. But I had a nice little drive up from Baltimore, had some time to get ready.”

McMahon, a 2024 All-Star for the Rockies, added it’s “really exciting” to go from last-place Colorado to a pennant race with the Yanks.

“I mean, this is every kid’s dream,” McMahon said. “When you’re 9, 10 years old, hitting in the backyard, you’re picturing yourself, Game 7, World Series at Yankee Stadium. So it’s gonna be pretty cool…Couldn’t pick a better spot.”

McMahon said the Uber ride took about 3 1/2 hours and he arrived at the Stadium around 8:30 p.m.

Aaron Boone said Giancarlo Stanton will work out in the outfield to see “if he can be an option there,” if Aaron Judge (elbow) needs to be the designated hitter when he first comes off the injured list.

“That’s not imminent,” Boone said of Stanton, who has not played the outfield this season since returning in mid-June from an IL stint. “I wouldn’t play him obviously with Aaron on the IL, but he’ll start to work out there during this stretch [depending on] how long it’s gonna take Aaron to get back into the outfield.

“We’ll see what it looks like and how G responds to it.”

Stanton hit his second home run in as many games Saturday in the seventh inning.

Boone reiterated that he expects Luis Gil (lat) to make another minor-league rehab start this week for Triple-A Scranton and “then should be in play” to make his season debut for the Yankees.

Ryan Yarbrough (oblique) also is expected to throw a full bullpen session in the coming days.

Righty reliever Yerry de los Santos returned from his rehab assignment and was reinstated from the 15-day injured list to replace Scott Effross, who was optioned to Triple-A after Friday’s game.

Allan Winans also was optioned to Scranton following Saturday’s loss.

Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
