Rory McIlroy taunted with ‘Amanda’ chant at Ryder Cup after divorce saga
The fans’ treatment of Rory McIlroy at the Ryder Cup didn’t let up on Sunday.
McIlroy has been the target of abuse all weekend at Bethpage Black, and it took just one hole for it to start back up again on Sunday.

As the Northern Irishman stood over his putt on the first green, fans chanted, “Amanda! Amanda!” at him, in reference to CBS reporter Amanda Bailonis, with whom McIlroy was rumored to be involved last year.
The chants reportedly continued on the second hole as McIlroy faced Scottie Scheffler in Sunday’s marquee singles match.
The unsubstantiated rumors emerged last spring, when McIlroy stunningly filed for divorce from wife Erica Stoll after seven years of marriage.
Stoll and McIlroy, 36, ultimately avoided divorce, and she was on Long Island this week.
Fans also targeted her on Saturday, with reports circulating on X alleging that “someone in the crowd threw a drink” at her and McIlroy.
Fan behavior at Bethpage has become an ugly story at this year’s Ryder Cup, with McIlroy at the center of it.
He told fans on Saturday to “shut the f–k up” as they heckled him, and blew kisses at the crowd while it chanted obscenities.
Whatever the fans had for McIlroy on Sunday, though, there was little chance of changing Team USA’s fortunes.
The Americans entered play Sunday at 12-5, with Europe on the brink of clinching its first Ryder Cup on U.S. soil since 2012.
Each team earned half a point after Europe’s Viktor Hovland withdrew due to injury. American Harris English was subsequently sidelined from play.
Team USA was in need of a miracle to prevent this from being anything other than an embarrassing defeat, and fan behavior has certainly been a part of that.
