‘Real Housewives of Miami’ Star Larsa Pippen Claims She Doesn’t Remember Flashing The Camera On Girls Trip: “I Had A Lot Of Tequila That Night”

The Real Housewives of Miami Season 7 has been riddled with drama, from shifting friendship dynamics to shocking insults. But I would argue that some of the best moments from this season happened when the ladies were getting along. Those types of scenes might have been few and far between, what with Lisa Hochstein and Larsa Pippen going back and forth all season, and Stephanie Ruelas facing off against Alexia Nepola and Marysol Patton in more recent episodes. Still, the gals found time for some laughter and drunken antics aboard a two-day cruise trip hosted by Patton. Even Pippen let her hair down and flashed the camera when she was FaceTiming some of her co-stars from her cabin.

“The boat was kind of bumpy, so I was like, ‘I think we should drink tequila, so we don’t get seasick,’” she recalled to Decider over a Zoom interview. “I had probably three or four shots. I didn’t remember that scene, honestly, because I had a lot of tequila that night. But it was fun. It was just the girls. “

Even though it took 15 episodes to get there, the cruise also happened to be the place where she and Hochstein finally put their past issues behind them and made up. While some of Hochstein’s comments post-Season 7 set them back a bit, Pippen felt good about where they left things off after filming the reunion.

“I felt like we were in a good place when we left,” she said. “It’s really hard to argue or fight with someone that you actually care about.”

When we caught up with Pippen, she also gave an update on her relationship with Jeff Coby, how she feels about people commenting on her appearance, and what fans can expect from the Season 7 reunion. Check out the full interview below.

DECIDER: I feel like we’ve seen so many different sides of you this season. It started off shortly after your breakup, which was clearly an emotional time. You must feel like you’ve come so far since then. Can you tell me a bit about what it’s like watching that time in the beginning of the season back?

LARSA PIPPEN: I feel like I’m in such a different place right now. It was really hard for me to go back to that place. I just feel like it was hard for me. This is the first time that I was single. I was going through a lot. I am normally really strong. But last year I really needed my friends. I think I was in a place of vulnerability. I’m just happy I made it to the other side.

I’m so happy to see you so happy with your new guy, Jeff Coby. How are things going? And do you think we’ll be seeing him on future seasons of the show?

Yeah. I mean, we’re super happy. I feel like we’re in a really good place. I think so. I mean, I don’t know how much he’s going to want to do the show, but I feel like we both support each other, and I’m sure he’ll be willing to be a part of the show a tiny bit.

I want to get into some of the drama going on this season. You vs. Lisa and Jody has been a major storyline. When it came to the whole texting thing, Jody wondered why you went harder on him than you did Russell last season. What’s your response to that?

Well, I said two words to Russell last season. He just said, “Stop it, Larsa.” It’s funny because I heard [Jody] say that I texted him first. That’s a complete lie. He texted me first. It was just a lot of going back and forth. I’m not normally used to having to deal with my friends’ boyfriends. That’s kind of crazy, you know? But there’s a night and day difference. I never really had a relationship with Russell. The things Jody was texting me were out of line. For my coworker, friend’s boyfriend to be texting me is kind of crazy.

The men should always stay out of it. It’s called Housewives for a reason.

I totally agree. If you want a spot on our show then put a dress on and try out.

There has been a lot of back and forth between you and Lisa this season. Why was the paparazzi comment the one that hurt the most?

I just feel like it was very hurtful, because I would never want to hurt someone that I spent time with. I’m not one of those people that bashes ex-boyfriends, ex-husbands, friends that I’ve had in the past. It’s just not my personality. I didn’t appreciate her saying that because it was just such a big lie and so untrue. This season, I feel like I respect myself so much that I’m not going to just sit there and let someone disrespect me. I’ve worked too hard to get to where I am to be disrespected like that. Sometimes when I get frustrated or I get loud or whatever, it’s literally because I respect myself a lot and I want other people to respect me when they’re speaking to me.

I really loved seeing you two make up on the cruise. Has reliving everything had an effect on your current friendship? If so, how?

We made up on the cruise. I felt like we were in a better place. Then just her commenting on social media and saying that like I’m the one that texted Jody first–she’s lied so much this season. I’ve apologized to her. I wanted to move forward. But at the same time, when is it going to be enough? All I ever asked her to do was be there for me as a friend. I haven’t asked you for anything more. It shouldn’t be that complicated.

Would you say your time at the reunion helped your friendship or brought you further apart?

I don’t know. Honestly, I felt like we were in a good place when we left. It’s really hard to argue or fight with someone that you actually care about. I think in some situations, if you’re not really friends with someone, it’s easier. But it’s hard when you really, genuinely have a relationship with the person and you care about them. I just think that that makes it hard.

I’m very excited to see the reunion. There’s been a lot of teasing about some big bombshell that’s going to be dropped. On a scale from 1-10, how shocked do you think fans will be? Is there anything you can tease about that?

Oh, I’m going to say ten-and-a-half. It was really crazy. I did not expect it. It’s just really crazy.

Did the bombshell come from your side of the room or the other side?

My side of the room.

Interesting. I’m very excited to see the episode.

This season has been so much fun. We had great cast trips. We went to amazing places and just being together with most of the girls for me was really fun.

I have to say, I think Stephanie is a great addition to the show. However, some fans think she might be too braggy and too flashy. As her friend, what’s response to the critics?

This was her first season. I feel like she’s not really used to being around this many women. So I think it was hard for her in the beginning to kind of figure out, “What do I say? How do I behave?” I think she did great. I think she’s great. She’s a great part of the cast. I think all the girls liked her. They enjoyed being around her. If you have it, flaunt it.

You’re close friends with Stephanie, Marysol and Alexia. What was it like navigating their drama this season?

It was really hard, actually. It’s really hard because I feel like they’re both the same. They’re both strong and independent. Sometimes, even when they’re saying the same thing, it’s almost like, “Who’s speaking louder?” It’s that kind of dynamic. I would tell Alexia that Stephanie didn’t mean anything by what she said. Then I would go back to tell Stephanie that’s not what she was intending. So, it was a lot of refereeing for me in the middle.

It seems like things are going to blow up between Stephanie and Marysol any minute. What do you think about Stephanie saying that Marysol uses Alexia as her mouthpiece?

No. I feel like Marysol and Alexia have this dynamic where Marysol says a lot of things, and then Alexia is the one that expresses it to the girl group. Sometimes, people may think that because Marysol did have that conversation in private, but Alexia is more up to publicly say what they spoke about … I feel like a lot of the things that Marysol says, she says. I just feel like a lot of times she’s only saying it when she’s in her safe space, which is around Alexia, which is around me.

Drama aside, I loved to see everyone let loose on the cruise. Did you remember flashing the camera when you were FaceTiming the other girls? What did you think about Alexia subtly covering the phone?

The boat was kind of bumpy, so I was like, “I think we should drink tequila, so we don’t get seasick.” I had probably three or four shots. I didn’t remember that scene, honestly, because I had a lot of tequila that night. But it was fun. It was just the girls.

We also learned that you were a big Bon Jovi fan in the ‘80s, which surprised producers. Is there anything else about Larsa in the ‘80s that would surprise fans?

I don’t know. I feel like I liked a lot of different music back then. My cousins went to a Jon Bon Jovi concert and I was so much younger than them. They took me and I literally was like, “Oh, my God, there’s so many people.” It was such an experience for me. So that really stayed in my mind.

It can be tough in the public eye when fans and critics alike speaking on people’s appearances has become the norm. From your experience, is it hard to let these comments roll off your back? What do you have to say to the haters out there?

I feel like I normally don’t even notice them, but lately I’ve had a little bit more time to clap back. I feel like if you can let it go, it’s probably better just to let it go. But if you feel like you want to comment every now and then and set the record straight, that’s OK too. They throw shade at what shines.

You’ve done a lot beyond The Real Housewives of Miami. You’ve also been on House of Villains and The Traitors. Are there any other shows you’d want to go on?

Maybe Dancing with the Stars. I feel like I’d like to be a better dancer. That’s kind of why I would want to do that show. I saw my daughter do it and her dance technique from week one until week two and three was night and day. So I feel like that would be fun.

We all found out on WWHL last week that Tom Schwartz has a crush on Alexia. Do you ship it?

What’s his name? Can we look up what [he looks like]? I want to see what he looks like. I know Alexa’s type, so I can tell you if there’s a chance … I don’t think so. I don’t know why. He’s just too like … I don’t think so. I think she likes him a little more outspoken.

BravoCon is coming up soon. What are you most excited for?

I’m most excited for the fashion because I think all the women from all the different franchises bring the fashion for sure.

What else can you tease about what’s to come from this season of Miami?

Listen, this reunion is so crazy. I left completely in shock. It was a crazy reunion. I think it’s going to explain a lot of this season. The reunion is going to explain a lot of the behind the scenes of the entire season this year.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
