The movie stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth as Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen, polar opposite best friends who take weeklong vacations together every summer, until a trip to Croatia causes them to stop speaking for two years.
Is this new rom-com based on a book? Keep reading to find out.
Is People We Meet on Vacation Based on a Book?
Yes! People We Meet on Vacation is based on the novel of the same name by Emily Henry. Released in the spring of 2021, it marks Henry’s second adult romance.
PWMOV is the first of Henry’s novels to make it to the screen; her adult debut Beach Read is in development with PWMOV screenwriter Yulin Kuang at the helm, and on Jan. 8, it was announced to Funny Story, with a screenplay by Henry, and Happy Place are also in development at Netflix.
Want to meet the book versions of Poppy and Alex after watching the new movie? Whether you read with your eyes or your ears, or prefer paperback to hardcover, there’s an edition of People We Meet on Vacation for you.

Bader and Blyth recreated the animated cover of the novel for this Netflix movie tie-in edition (which may feature a Beach Read Easter Egg for those longtime EmHen fans out there). In addition to the new cover, it also has leafy green sprayed edges and a bonus essay by Henry about the novel’s journey from page to screen.
