The Rangers history with first-round draft picks adds a layer to the Brennan Othmann saga. When an organization has perennial success developing young players, that gives the hierarchy and the player in question more room to progress at his own pace without constant looks over the shoulder. That organization has not been the Rangers.
And so there has been much noise swirling around Othmann’s progress following his selection with pick No. 16 in 2021. First-rounders are expected to at least begin to make their mark three, if not four, years after the draft. That has not been Othmann.

But the affable 22-year-old winger has become pretty good at ignoring the noise. Othmann has a pretty good role model when it comes to understanding that every place develops at his own pace and that is not necessarily a race to make it to the NHL.
