Raiders could be open to trading star Maxx Crosby

The Raiders and Maxx Crosby could end up heading for a divorce after a messy end to the 2025 season.

After the Raiders decided to put Crosby on season-ending injured reserve before Week 17, which reportedly angered the veteran, it is now possible that the team could trade him.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Saturday that “many believe Las Vegas will be open to moving its star pass rusher” if the relationship between the two sides remains frosty.

Last Friday, the five-time Pro Bowler left the team facility after it was decided he would be sitting out the final two games over concerns about his knee.

Head coach Pete Carroll said the knee wasn’t in great shape, and he didn’t disagree with Crosby’s decision to leave the team facility in frustration over the move.

“He knows that he’s banged up, so he’s talking about, ‘I’d like to get out of here.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, get out of here.’ So he took off,” Carroll said. “This didn’t just spring on him. We’ve been talking about it, and it was exactly what you would think he would do and he should do. I agree with him 1,000 percent on how he responded, and I [would have] responded the same way.”

When the Raiders made the IR move official the following day, they said they looked forward to having Crosby in the fold for 2026 and beyond.

In a twist later that day, though, Crosby posted videos on his social media of him shooting hoops and jumping on a trampoline, though it was not clear if they were taken after he was sent home or not.

Crosby, on Monday, went on the “Let’s Go!” podcast, and while he didn’t specifically address his feelings about getting sent home or if he was healthy enough to play the final two regular-season games, he did allude to playing through “bumps and bruises” being part of the game.

“When it comes to football, there’s certain things that I truly believe in, and I feel like there’s core principles that you gotta live by, and there’s a certain way the game needs to be played,” Crosby said. “And there’s a certain approach that you have when you go into the field. And the way you look at it, from my perspective, is you play to win. You play for your teammates, you put everything you have into the game, no matter what it is. There’s gonna be bumps and bruises. You’re gonna be banged up. That is a part of the game and the nature of the beast.”

Crosby had 10 sacks and 73 tackles in 15 games before being shut down.

Adding to all of this, NFL.com reported Saturday that Carroll is likely to be fired after one season at the helm in Las Vegas.

At 2-14, the Raiders own the worst record in the league and would clinch the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft with a loss to the Chiefs this weekend.
