Prince Harry ‘utterly devastated’ over ‘hostile takeover’ of Sentebale charity he co-founded

Prince Harry is reportedly crushed over the “hostile takeover” of the Sentebale charity he co-founded.

“Harry, I am told, is ‘utterly devastated,’ spending hours on the phone from California to supporters late into the night, raging about a ‘hostile takeover’ of his ‘life’s work,’” Rebecca English, Royal Editor for the Daily Mail, wrote in an article published Wednesday.

The correspondent further claims that the Duke of Sussex and his friends believe Sentebale charity chair Dr. Sophie Chandauka “cajoled her way” to a position of power and influence.

“They claim she would rather see the charity ‘go down in flames’ than admit she is guilty of mismanagement and resign,” English alleged.

“She shopped them all to the Charity Commission when the trustees raised their concerns about the charity’s governance,” a source told English.

English also claimed that an insider told her that there was “no way in hell” that Harry, 40, “would ever work with Sentebale again … at least not while Sophie Chandauka and her new stool pigeons [trustees] were in place.”

In an exclusive statement to Page Six, a spokesperson for Harry said: “While we don’t recognise the source of these quotes, it would be accurate to say that the Duke is, of course, deeply upset by this entire ordeal; though he remains absolutely committed to continuing the work he began 19 years ago – that being to support the children of Lesotho and Botswana living with HIV/AIDS and struggling with mental health issues.”

Page Six has reached out to Dr. Chandauka for comment but did not immediately hear back.

As Page Six previously reported, Harry announced in March that he was quitting the Sentebale charity he and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho founded in 2006.

“What’s transpired is unthinkable. We are in shock that we have to do this,” the duo said in a joint statement to the London Times.

“With heavy hearts, we have resigned for our roles as patrons of the organization until further notice, in support of and solidarity with the board of trustees. It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair.”

Harry and Seeiso, 59, clarified, “Although we may no longer be patrons, we will always be its founders, and we will never forget what this charity is capable of achieving when it is in the right care.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Chandauka, 47, claimed “misogynoir” was to blame for why the “Spare” author and board of trustees resigned.

“Beneath all the victim narrative and fiction that has been syndicated to press is the story of a woman who dared to blow the whistle about issues of poor governance, weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, misogynoir and the cover-up that ensued,” she alleged to the London Times in March.

The corporate finance lawyer also claimed Harry launched a “damaging” attack that led to “harassment and bullying” after he quit the organization.

After an investigation, the Charity Commission for England and Wales — an independent government department that registers and regulates charities in England and Wales — stated in a press release Tuesday that they found no evidence of “widespread or systemic bullying or harassment, including misogyny or misogynoir at the charity.”

The department also stated that they found no evidence of “over-reach by either the chair or the Duke of Sussex as patron” — though they were critical of the charity’s “lack of clarity in delegations to the chair which allowed for misunderstandings to occur.”

In a statement to Page Six, Harry’s spokesperson said that the damage to the charity had already been done.

“Unsurprisingly, the Commission makes no findings of wrongdoing in relation to Sentebale’s Co-Founder and former Patron, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex,” the statement read.

“They also found no evidence of widespread bullying, harassment or misogyny and misogynoir at the charity, as falsely claimed by the current Chair.

“Despite all that, their report falls troublingly short in many regards, primarily the fact that the consequences of the current Chair’s actions will not be borne by her — but by the children who rely on Sentebale’s support.”
