The outlet notes Countdown was canceled due to “total global viewership,” though the series is still in the streamer’s Top 10 most popular shows over a month after the finale aired in September.
In Countdown, Ackles starred as former LAPD detective Mark Meachum who gets recruited to a secret task force of agents charged with investigating the murder of a Department of Homeland Security officer. The series also starred Eric Dane and Jessica Camacho.
Butterfly premiered Aug. 13 with a binge release. Based on the graphic novel series created by Arash Amel, the series starred Kim as an enigmatic former U.S. spy living in South Korea when his past comes back to haunt him just as a sociopathic young agent (Reina Hardesty) is assigned to kill him.
These cancellations come after the streamer recently canceled the similarly short-lived young adult drama Motorheads. But it hasn’t all been bad news over at Prime Video.
We Were Liars, Overcompensating and the Bosch spinoff series Ballard were all renewed for second seasons.
But fans looking to see more of Ackles will be able to see him return to Prime Video for The Boys Season 5 and the upcoming prequel series Vought Rising which will follow Soldier Boy in his heyday.
Kim will also be reprising his role as Fire Lord Ozai in Netflix’s live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Production on Season 2 recently wrapped but a release date has not been announced yet.
