Preorder LEGO Smart Play and the first LEGO Pokémon now
We’re only 14 days into 2026, but the new year is shaping up to be a massive one for LEGO, with a handful of brand new lines announced in the first few days of the year.
The first is a really big one: the LEGO SMART Play system, which launches on March 1, is one of the most significant evolutions of the LEGO brand since the introduction of the LEGO Minifigure in 1978, per the brand’s release announcing the new technology. It debuted during CES last week.

What is SMART Play, though? The new system, debuting in three new LEGO Smart Brick sets from the LEGO Star Wars line, consists of three new elements: SMART Brick, SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures. The new pieces react in real time to being used, lighting up parts of the sets, bringing a TIE Fighter to life with acceleration noises, and so much more.
It’s an innovation in what LEGO has always done best: creative and interactive storytelling.
The second major launch of 2026 is the announcement of the first-ever LEGO Pokémon. Three brand new sets, featuring five beloved Pokémon, will be available from Feb. 27.
All of the sets referenced above are available to preorder right now.
