As Bonzi was serving at match point — leading 6-3, 7-5, 5-4 — a photographer entered the court for an unknown reason, which led the chair umpire Greg Allensworth to call for time on the court.

“Wait please, not now,” Allensworth yelled. “Get off the court, please.”

The cameraman was trying to leave after Bonzi missed his first serve. Allensworth opted to give the Frenchman another first serve leading to Medvedev charging the umpire in anger.

“First serve. Ladies and gentlemen, because of the delay caused by an onside interference, first serve has been granted,” Allensworth announced.

Medvedev raised his arms up to encourage more “boos” from the crowd and immediately approached Allensworth about the call.

“Are you a man? Are you a man? Why are you shaking? What’s wrong, huh? Guys, he wants to leave. He gets paid by the match not by the hour,” the 13th-seeded said into the broadcast camera that was next to the chair umpire.

Bonzi refused to serve until the crowd stopped booing and yelling “Second serve!,” causing a lengthy delay.

When resuming play, Bonzi was unable to close out the match and Medvedev powered through to win the next two sets, forcing a decisive fifth.

However, the former 2021 U.S. Open champion fell short and then continuously smashed his racket after Bonzi earned the upset with a 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 0-6, 6-4 win.
