“Every season I’ve had with him these last few years, I try to cherish because you never know,” Mahomes, 30, said.
“He got himself in great shape this year and he’s played great football,” he continued. “He’ll have the option to do whatever he wants to do after this season, but I know one thing: He’ll give everything he has for the rest of this season to try to give us a chance to make a playoff run.”
“We know the chances are getting lower and lower.”
Mahomes acknowledged the Chiefs’ struggles this season.
“We just have to execute at a higher level in those big moments,” he said. “It’s something we haven’t done this year.”
Kelce looked visibly upset on the sidelines after he dropped a pass from Mahomes in the fourth quarter, which led to a Houston interception late in the game. His dropped pass came during the Chiefs’ last chance to score and tie the game.
He declined to give interviews after the game, according to ESPN.
Kelce’s fiancée, Taylor Swift, attended the game on Sunday alongside Selena Gomez and Lena Dunham. Leonardo DiCaprio was also spotted in Kelce’s suite at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., though the Oscar-winning actor wasn’t seated by Swift and her pals.
Last month, Kelce shared that he was focused on winning, rather than retirement.
“All of that will be at the end of the season and I won’t be thinking about it until then,” he told reporters.
And of course, he has his upcoming wedding to Swift, 35, to focus on. Multiple sources told Page Six that the pop superstar wants to marry the NFL athlete at Ocean House in Rhode Island on Saturday, June 13, 2026 — so much so that she paid off a couple who already booked the venue for that day to secure the wedding date.
