While on “The Osbournes” podcast, Jack, 40, revealed that his father was in the hospital two weeks before his final Black Sabbath show on July 5.
“The story, I don’t think even you know it, we had him in the hospital and we were just terrified that people were going to find out,” Sharon, 73, confessed.
“So we had all the security and the hospital… the hospital was amazing, they really were,” she continued. “The people at the front desk were told ‘nobody, if they ask for Ozzy, he’s not here. Nobody’s allowed up.’ All of that.”
Sharon detailed that the hospital even “had pictures of all of us who were allowed up, and names.”
“This guy comes up and says ‘I want to see John Osbourne [Ozzy’s legal name].’ So of course there’s a red light and they go ‘who are you?’ and he goes ‘I’m his brother,’” recounted the former talk show host.
Security then contacted Sharon who noted that there was “no way” it could really be him because Ozzy’s brother didn’t know he was hospitalized.
“His sisters, his brother didn’t know. So I sent security down and I said ‘find out who this guy is, he’s definitely from the press,’” she said.
However, it turned out it was the brother of another John Osbourne at that hospital.
Sharon and her kids “felt so terrible.”
The family did not disclose why specifically the late rocker was hospitalized at the time.
Despite Ozzy’s declining health, he wanted to perform at Black Sabbath’s farewell concert.
“It’s not like we forced him, wheeled him out there… to do this gig,” Jack explained. “He was adamant… he was running the show. He said he knew exactly what he wanted. Yeah, and he was determined to do it.”
The television star also noted that “everyone got to have their time” with Ozzy towards the end.
“I talked about [it on] the podcast, you know, my kids getting the stomach flu, and I was supposed to be in Portugal, and I wouldn’t have really got to see him,” Jack expressed.
“A lot of things kinda lined up in a — I don’t know. It’s f—ed up to say, but there was a level of perfection around it, because I don’t think there was anything left open. In the sense of, ‘Oh, I wish we’d have done this. Oh, I wish we’d have done that.’”
Kelly, 41, tearfully shared that she “just wanted more time” with her dad.
Jack responded, “But you’re always gonna want more time.”
“You’re always gonna want more time. And this is a huge example for our little family. Time is so precious,” Sharon chimed in. “And don’t waste time with anyone. It’s like we always used to say, Daddy and I would say, ‘You can’t buy time.’ If only.”
Ozzy performed at Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert on July 5.
Rocker Tom Morello reflected on being appointed the musical director by Ozzy and Sharon for the benefit concert in Birmingham, England.
While on Chicago’s Q101, the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave described Ozzy as “one of the all-time greats.”
Tom’s goal with the concert was to put together “the greatest day in the history of heavy metal.”
“I laid out to make it a great show for fans and for them,” he said in August, revealing that the band “got to play and feel the love not just from the bands, not just from the 40,000 people in the stadium but from people all over the world.
“The fact that he lived to play and feel that love and to one more time… You know, to do ‘Paranoid;’ to do ‘Crazy Train.’ If you have got to go — I mean, I wish Ozzy lived another 30 years — but if you’ve got to go out, it really felt like he knew,” Morello mused.
During the concert, Ozzy sat on a black throne while he sang five songs solo. He was then accompanied by his former bandmates Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler for four final Black Sabbath tracks.
“On the day, a million things could have gone wrong, and maybe like three things did. But it felt like a spiritually great moment for all fans of rock and roll,” Morello reflected. “Ozzy and Sabbath could not be more important to me personally as a fan and as an artist.”
He called the rock star’s death “a tragedy,” but said it was “a miracle” that the musician “lived as long as he did.”
Ozzy’s family announced his death on July 22. His cause of death was later determined to be from cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” they said in a statement to The Post. “He was his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”
