And then it all caved in during the 10th.

Baltimore held a 6-2 lead going into that fateful eighth inning before Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso both hit two-run homers to tie the game before Juan Soto’s hit with the free runner on second base in extras won it for the Amazin’s, 7-6.

For as good of a win as it was for the Mets, it was just as rough for the Orioles, and their play-by-play announcer, Kevin Brown, was brutally honest about it.

On the MASN call, Brown noted just how “devastating” the defeat was for the team.

“As devastating a defeat as the Orioles have suffered this year,” Brown said after Ryan O’Hearn grounded out to second to end the game. “Their first game where they blew a four-run lead in the final two innings to lose since Aug. 8, 2023 against Houston.”

After the Mets jumped ahead 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Baltimore answered back with five runs over the next two innings, holding a four-run lead with just six outs to get.

But reliever Byran Baker served up the two two-run blasts before recording an out in the eighth.

Soto’s RBI single in the 10th ended up as the game-winner when the Orioles went down in order in the bottom half against Huascar Brazobán.

As Brown noted on the broadcast, it was also the first time the Mets rallied from a four-run-or-greater deficit in the eighth inning or later since May 5, 2022, when they scored seven runs in the ninth inning for a wild win against the Phillies.

The two teams play again Wednesday at Camden Yards at 7:05 p.m.
