‘One Battle After Another’ Has Its Eye On The Prize: How the Golden Globes Winners Help Us Predict Awards Season Trends
In the lead-up to the Academy Awards, there is often no better indicator of the direction the awards season is taking than the Golden Globes. This year, that rule still applies, but once again, the divide between the drama and the comedy/musical categories gives keen insight as to where and who this award season will go to.
Will Paul Thomas Anderson and One Battle After Another continue to dominate as we approach the Oscars on March 15? Could delayed access to Marty Supreme push back Timothée Chalamet’s chances of achieving greatness for his role? Will Sinners get any of the recognition it deserves across the screenplay, directing, or artistic categories, or will it fall by the wayside completely?

These are just some of the questions we’re left with after the 2026 Golden Globes and as we look ahead to the 2026 Academy Awards, now just several weeks out. Similarly, does this award show help us predict some of the possible winners for the Emmy Awards, still more than eight months away? We shall see.
Here are some of the biggest takeaways from the 2026 Golden Globes…
-
One Battle After Another‘s Battle Is Not Uphill
Photo: Getty With wins in the Best Director and Best Comedy or Musical categories, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is paving its road to Oscar success, even more so after Teyana Taylor’s win in the Best Supporting Actress category. While Sinners is still heavily in contention for several categories at the Academy Awards — we’re hoping Ryan Coogler gets his deserved flowers in the Best Screenplay category at the very least — we think OBAA is just a few trophies away from being this season’s awards darling, decidedly.

Wagner Moura Cannot Be Counted Out Yet
Photo: Getty Just because Timothée Chalamet has now won a CCA and a Golden Globe for playing the titular character in Marty Supreme does not mean that the Oscar is his, confidently. In fact, one could and should make the argument that Wagner Moura’s win in the Best Actor in a Drama, a category where he is joined by A-Listers like Michael B. Jordan and Oscar Isaac, moves him up in the power rankings. Given that voters in the past have been known to favor dramas over comedies, could Wagner’s breathtaking work in The Secret Agent clinch him the award so many are all but ready to hand over to Chalamet?

Rose Byrne Could Come From Behind To Take It All
Photos: Getty Images While Jessie Buckley is still, by all means, the frontrunner for Best Lead Actress thanks to her otherworldly performance in Hamnet, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Rose Byrne comes in for the upset. The If I Had Legs I’d Kick You star took home the hardware for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, beating out Amanda Seyfried, Chase Infiniti, and Emma Stone. It’s clear that viewers are connecting with her performance, and it wouldn’t be a complete shock if she won it all.

Best Supporting Actress Is Fair Game
Photo: Getty Teyana Taylor for One Battle After Another this week, Amy Madigan last week for Weapons, Ariana Grande still a favorite… who will win the coveted Best Supporting Actress Oscar at the end of this awards cycle? Heading into Sunday night’s Globes, many believed Madigan — the actress whose role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons became both critically and commercially revered — was emerging as the category’s frontrunner. Taylor’s win, however, shook things up and could continue to do so, especially heading into the Actor Awards just two weeks before the Oscars? Some categories may already be written in pen but this is not one.

Rhea Seehorn is Coming For Her Emmy
Photos: Getty Images After a win at the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globes — awards that are well overdue for the Better Call Saul alum — it seems like Rhea Seehorn is all but locking up her 2026 Emmy for Pluribus. It’s a testament to her years of unrecognized hard work and the power of Vince Gilligan’s Apple TV+ series, although we’re not sure it’s enough to shake The Pitt from the Best Drama Series predictions.

The Studio‘s Hiatus Could Mean a Win For Others
Photo: Getty Images While all eyes were on Seth Rogen after winning Best Actor in a Comedy Series and the award for Best Comedy Series for The Studio, my ears were on the part of his speech in which he opened up about getting back to work on Season 2. According to Rogen, it sounds like production for the second season is imminent, but that has me wondering if they are going to make the deadline to be Emmy eligible for the 2025-2026 year. Could their absence pave the way for Hacks, The Bear, or even Rogen’s other Apple TV+ comedy, Platonic, to sneak in for the win?
