Odds, picks, best bet for Wednesday’s college football showdown
It’s been an interesting season for the FIU Panthers.
Not much was expected out of the program after a third consecutive 4-8 season in 2024, but Year 1 of the Willie Simmons Era has actually been a pleasant surprise.

Simmons has the Panthers (3-4) in contention for their first bowl game since 2019, and a win over Missouri State on Wednesday would be a huge step towards that goal since the Panthers have a couple of very winnable games waiting for them down the stretch.
Florida International will have its work cut out for it as a 3.5-point underdog at Robert W. Plaster Stadium in Springfield, Mo., on Wednesday night.
FIU vs. Missouri State odds, prediction
Quarterback Jacob Clark is back under center for Missouri State, looking to build on a decent season that was cut short by injury.
Clark has thrown for at least 270 yards in four of his five starts this season, with the outlier coming when he was injured midgame against Western Kentucky.

You’d think that Clark and the Bears would have a field day against an FIU defense that is vulnerable to the deep ball, but that may not be the case Wednesday.
And it has everything to do with Mother Nature.
The forecast for Wednesday night does not look friendly for a team built to air it out.
The problem isn’t the precipitation, but the wind, which could hit 20 mph during the game. That should level the playing field a bit when Missouri State has the ball.
FIU won’t be too bothered by the gusts.
The Panthers rank in the middle of the pack in terms of rush play percentage, but the ground game is where they get their cookies. FIU ranks 26th in yards per carry and 29th in rushing yards per game. That’s bad news for the Bears, who rank 121st in yards allowed per carry.
Betting on College Football?
The Panthers are an inconsistent bunch. They’ve got a couple of impressive wins over Western Kentucky and Florida Atlantic on their ledger, but they’ve also thrown up some duds.
We’ll hope for one of the former Wednesday night in a game that should be quite scrappy.
The Play: FIU +3.5 (-110, FanDuel)
