Northern Illinois vs. Toledo odds, prediction
You’d be hard-pressed to find a funkier team in college football than Northern Illinois this season.
The Huskies boast one of the worst offenses in the country. They are averaging 12.6 points per game (134th in FBS), 276 yards per game (132nd), and 4.5 yards per play (126th). Northern Illinois has scored 10 points or fewer in four of its eight contests, and the Huskies have yet to score more than 21 points in a single game.
How is this team not the worst in the country, you ask?
Because the defense is terrific, especially by MAC standards.
The Huskies are holding opponents to 22.9 points per game (40th), 362.3 yards per contest (52nd), and 5.1 yards per play (43rd). They have only allowed three opponents to score more than 21 points this season, and they held San Diego State to six points. Northern Illinois only scored three in that game, but that’s besides the point.
Here’s the rub. Toledo’s defense is also nails.
The Rockets have been disappointing in 2025, but you can’t fault a defense that grades out as the 39th-best unit in the country, per SP+. Only six teams in all of FBS allow fewer yards per play than Toledo, which also ranks fifth in yards allowed per game.
Betting on College Football?
We have been conditioned to expect the unexpected when it comes to MACtion, but it’s hard to see how this game turns into anything more than a rock fight, especially with Mother Nature up to her old tricks.
The Under 42.5 is worth a bet, but don’t be afraid to take a few shots on some alternate unders.
