Odds, picks, and best bet for ACC showdown
The Virginia Cavaliers were 75/1 to win the ACC before the season started.
The Hoos had won 3, 3, and 5 games in Tony Elliott’s first three seasons in charge, and it looked like he wasn’t long for the sidelines as the program tried to keep from becoming cannon fodder in the newly expanded conference.

A relatively soft schedule and a decent crop of transfers, including quarterback Chandler Morris, provided some hope, but it was more along the lines of “maybe they can get to a bowl game,” rather than “this team can win the ACC.”
We were all wrong.
Virginia enters Saturday’s game with Wake Forest in first place in the ACC, just a couple of wins away from clinching a berth in the conference championship game.
Wake Forest vs. Virginia odds, prediction
Virginia is the most surprising team in the ACC, but don’t sleep on what’s going on at Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons don’t have a flashy record like Virginia, but five wins from their first eight games is quite impressive considering where the expectations were for Wake Forest in Year 1 of the Jake Dickert era.
Things looked even bleaker after Week 1, as the Demon Deacons were a missed extra point away from being taken to overtime by Kennesaw State. That performance was supposed to be a signal of a dismal rebuilding year, but Wake Forest found its groove pretty quickly.

Betting on College Football?
There have been lows, like a 42-7 drubbing at the hands of Florida State, but there have been a lot more highs. Wake Forest beat SMU, 13-12, and nearly handed Georgia Tech its first loss of the campaign.
There is no secret to how Wake Forest wants to play. The Demon Deacons have an impressive defense, the 36th-best in the country according to SP+, but the offense is a mess, grading out as the No. 101 unit in the country, per SP+.
The offensive ineptitude is daunting, but it’s not like they’re going to be asked to put up crooked numbers. Virginia’s offense has had its moments this season, but overall it grades out as middling.
Wake Forest should be able to keep this one in range. Don’t be afraid to sprinkle the moneyline, either.
The Play: Wake Forest +7 (-112, DraftKings)
