NYC teen critically wounded after subway surfing and young woman fatally struck by train in separate transit horrors: cops


A teen was left in critical condition after subway surfing in the Bronx and young woman was killed after she was fatally struck by a Manhattan train in two grisly incidents inside the city’s subway system Monday, according to police.

The teenage boy fell onto the tracks at the Baychester subway station while he was riding on top of a northbound 5 train shortly after 4 p.m., cops said.

Paramedics rushed to the victim, who police said is between 14 and 16 years old, to Jacobi Hospital.

He was listed in critical condition, according to the NYPD.

Later Monday night, a 24-year-old woman was struck and killed by a northbound L train at the Union Square subway station, cops said. 

Witnesses told officers that at around 10:20 p.m., the woman jumped down onto the tracks of her own accord.

But when the northbound train was pulling into the station, she scrambled to climb out, police said witnesses saw.

She didn’t make it in time and was hit.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 10:27 p.m., police said.

It’s unclear why she jumped onto the tracks. The incident remains under investigation, but investigators said they do not suspect any criminality at this time. 

L train service between 8th Avenue and Bedford Avenue was suspended for about an hour, and then partially restored. Delays along the line continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to an MTA spokesman.
