NYC Mayor Adams rallies with sanitation union as he takes shot at election frontrunner Zohran Mamdani

New York City Mayor Eric Adams rallied with sanitation workers Wednesday — touting a month-old endorsement from the union while taking shots at mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani.

Hizzoner joined a rowdy crowd of over 200 members of the Teamsters Local 831 union in downtown Manhattan and highlighted a five-year contract his administration granted sanitation workers in 2023.

“I know what it is when we came into office, and I made a commitment to you that we would settle your contracts,” Adams said.

Local 831 is one of the non-law enforcement groups that have endorsed the mayor, who is running for re-election in November on the independent line “Protect and Serve” after dropping out of a Democratic Party primary.

The union first put its support behind the incumbent mayor in July with a slew of cop unions.

Adam slammed Queens socialist Mamdani’s policies on prostitution during his remarks — warning of the Assembly member’s plan to decriminalize sex work.

“What’s on the ballot this year?” he said. “Public safety is on the ballot. When you have a candidate that says prostitution should be legal in our city — young boys and girls sell their bodies — that’s not a city I want to live in.”

Wednesday’s rally comes on the heels of a scandal sweeping the administration last week — when his former top aide Ingrid Lewis-Martin was indicted on four counts of bribery.

In a separate bizarre instance on the campaign trail Thursday, Winnie Greco  – the mayor’s former adviser of Asian Affairs – handed a potato chip bag stuffed with an envelope of cash to a reporter.

Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, ridiculed the Adams campaign following the news.

“It has gotten to the absurd. We are speaking about allegations that none of us would have entertained as possible or plausible, that cash would be stuffed in an envelope within a bag of chips. given to a reporter,”

Mamdani said Monday while rallying alongside advocates for the McGuinness Boulevard bike lane in Greenpoint, Brooklyn — a project in which some of the bribery indictments were tied.

“Even when I say it, it sounds ludicrous, and yet, this is what Mayor Adams’s administration has brought,” he said.
