NYC hospital on lockdown after police involved shooting

A bloodied, unhinged man armed with a sharp object was shot by cops inside Brooklyn Methodist Hospital on Thursday in a scary altercation that plunged the medical center into lockdown, according to sources and witnesses.

Police responded to the hospital around 5:40 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a man who barricaded himself inside a hospital room with an elderly patient. He was wielding a sharp object and using it to cut himself — leaving the room covered in blood, according to sources.

Two officers deployed their tasers at him after an altercation — but it failed to stop the man, according to witnesses and sources.

Two other officers then discharged their guns, and shots were fired, striking him, sources said.

The man, who has not yet been identified, is in critical condition and is being treated at the same hospital, sources added.

The four officers are also being treated for tinnitus.

Helicopters and emergency vehicles were spotted swarming the hospital in Park Slope in the aftermath of the shooting.

The emergency room is currently on lockdown, and family members of patients have been told to leave, one woman, whose son is in the emergency room at Methodist, told The Post.
