NYC building super killed in scuffle with porch pirate ID’d as Kosovo war refugee, doting dad

The Brooklyn building super who died in a scuffle with a porch pirate Wednesday was remembered by grieving family as a Kosovo war refugee and devoted father of three — as his alleged killer waits to face charges.
Burim Havolli, 41, was beaten to death while defending his Ditmas Park building, which has recently been plagued by package thefts and outside troublemakers, neighbors and relatives said.

“He died protecting the building, protecting the packages of the tenants,” his brother, Belerim Havolli, told The Post. “He cares so much about everyone here. He had a big heart. He was just unbelievable.
“He was a very nice family man. I feel so bad for his wife and children,” he added. “What is this world coming to today? These are babies he had and now they’re going to grow up without a father.”
Charges are still pending for the 30-year-old assailant, who was arrested shortly after the assault.
“They need to be convicted,” longtime tenant Ingrid Compton, 70, said. “They need to be put away. They need to make an example out of him.”
Law enforcement sources said the alleged attack, who has not been officially charged, has at least three prior arrests, including a burglary rap last year and assault busts last year and in 2017.
Carolyn Banfield, the mother of the suspect’s ex, said the couple parted ways after a tumultuous relationship.
“He was very jealous,” Banfield said. “I would say it was jealousy because some men are really demanding with women sometimes.”
It is unclear what charges he may face in Havolli’s death, which could depend on autopsy results.
Meanwhile, the slain super will have his funeral service in his native Kosovo, the family said on Facebook.
“I would like to inform all friends and relatives that suddenly a few moments ago my son, brother, father and our dearest Burim Havolli passed away,” the post said. “He migrated to the USA, where I work and create a family and left behind his wife Jehona, children, Joni, Dhurata and Kroni.”
Havolli was at the Ditmas Park apartment building around 8 a.m. Wednesday when he confronted the 30-year-old suspect who was allegedly attempting to steal a tenant’s package — a constant nuisance in the building, sources and neighbors said.
The goon struck Havolli in the head with his phone several times, with the super collapsing.
Havolli was rushed to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Albanian refugee had been watching over the building for more than 15 years, and spoke to The Post in 2013 after a nurse lived in was involved in a gruesome attempted murder suicide.
Havolli recalled walking in on the gory scene where Anna Thomas, 20, allegedly killed her 19-month-old son and tried to kill herself — telling reporters he was shocked by the crime.
Locals said he has remained protective of the building and it’s tenants.
“We survived the war as a refugee,” his brother said. “My mother, she was sick for two years. Even now she’s sick…he went back home to see her. He said, ‘I’m going just to see her because I don’t know if she’s going to make it till next time.’”
“He traveled back from Europe two days before this happened. He just went to see her,” the sibling said. “He said, ‘I don’t know if she’s going to make it.’”
