The newly released trailer shows Sheen eager to answer any questions director Andrew Renzi may have about his past. And he’s not the only one.
aka Charlie Sheen features revelatory talking head interviews from the biggest figures in Sheen’s life, including his ex-wife Denise Richards, his daughter Lola Sheen, actor Sean Penn, and Charlie’s Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer. Chuck Lorre, the creator and EP of Two and a Half Men who publicly feuded with Charlie for years, is also featured in the documentary.
But one appearance in particular will shock viewers: Charlie’s former drug dealer. “When Charlie said he was smoking seven-gram rocks, he was smoking seven-gram rocks,” he confirms in the trailer.
Charlie is candid in the trailer about the effects of fame on his psyche while admitting the “shame” of his lowest points feels “suffocating.”
“And the whole world goes, ‘He’s the fucking guy,’” he says in the trailer. “Imagine what that did to my head.”
Penn also corroborated that Charlie was “experimenting with everything” at a certain point in his life.
But the Netflix doc captures Charlie at seven years of sobriety as he rebuilds his relationship with his loved ones. “You can’t really have a relationship with someone going through addiction,” his daughter Lola says.
aka Charlie Sheen will premiere on Netflix Sept. 10.
