Leaving behind your pooch’s pile can come back to bite you at Hudson Harbor in Edgewater, where dog owners must pay $200 to swab their dogs so their genetic data is on file.

Samples from canine culprits are then sent to a lab in Tennessee, PooPrints, which helps bust owners — leading to $250 fines, according to property management.

But some residents said the cutting-edge poop sleuthing makes too much of a stink.

“You can’t always pick it up, so I’m a little worried. Sometimes we’re outside in the dark in a non-lit area, and I can’t always find [the feces],” said  Angelina Budija, 46,  who has a Shih Tzu named Jolie.

“They’re the poop police. Now I have to be even more cautious,” she said,  adding she thinks there are already too many rules in the building. “I think it’s a little over the top.”

Property manager Christina Ortiz — who is tasked with scooping dog waste and mailing it to the lab in vials — said the technology is an effective deterrent.

“I think it holds our residents responsible, and it’s been working out for us,”  Ortiz told The Post. “I guess, yes, I’m kind of a detective of sorts.”

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would be a thing,” she said. “We’re really in the future.”

Others residents said its about doggone time someone amped up enforcement at the condo,  where one bedrooms sell for $478,000.

“I say if you left your poop out there, you’ve been tested – they’re coming for you now,” Iliana Marquez, who owns  Yorkipoo named Lola. “If it takes a lab to get it done, good.”

“A lot of people are leaving their poop out here. It’s the worst, especially when it’s so simple to pick it up. It gets stuck in your shoes,” she said. “Pick up your poop!”

Tony Spinella, 65, owner of an Argentinian Dogo, said it helps sniff out “repeat offenders.”

“I think it’s great. I’m sure it’s not cheap to send to a lab for DNA testing, which shows that they’re serious about it,” said Spinella. “We get certain people —  and you can tell by the poop —  it’s repeat offenders. You step in it,  it’s horrible.”

The doggy DNA testing went into effect in 2022, when the building became pet friendly, according to Ortiz.

She said the policy also keeps residents from pointing fingers at one another over rouge refuse.

“People like to accuse each other when they don’t necessarily have all the facts,” she told CBS News, which was first to report the policy.

“Part of my job is literally going to be to mail poop. Like who says that?” she said.
