In the pre-recorded bit, Glaser is dressed in Kidman’s signature sparkly suit from the ad for the movie theater chain. Though like Kidman, Glaser says movie theater goers head to AMC “for magic,” “for love,” and “to cry,” her sentimental spiel is brought to a halt when she sees a notice that reads that the theater is “closed for renovations.” So, Glaser takes a detour—to her car.
“We come to our cars for podcasts,” she says in the same dreamy tone, “because we need that. All of us. That indescribable feeling when the episode stars to play…”
Glaser’s blissful podcast-listening experience is interrupted by an ad for Bombas, which she quickly clicks to skip.
“Then we go some place we’ve never been before,” she continues, as she listens to a snippet of Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett discussing their favorite cookie on their Golden Globe-nominated SmartLess podcast.
Glaser hits all the right notes, teasing being “reborn together” ahead of a clip of Gwyneth Paltrow and Amy Poehler discussing their ideal dinner times on the latter’s Good Hang podcast, while also featuring “vulnerable moments hijacked by inappropriate ad copy,” with a segment from Alex Cooper’s conversation with the late Jane Goodall on Call Her Daddy being interrupted by an ad for Tinder.
“Somehow discourse feels good in a place like this,” Glaser says, as Marc Maron surprises her with a knock on her window.
“Hey, do you know about SquareSpace?” he asks.
As Glaser abruptly drives off, Maron exclaims, “Hey, lock the gates!”
The ad wraps with Glaser saying, “Podcasts: They’re… just what we have now.”
The Golden Globe for Best Podcast, presented by Snoop Dogg, ultimately went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler, which bested Call Her Daddy, SmartLess, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and NPR’s Up First .
