The Jets were the first to make the mistake by not retaining Folk after he kicked for them from 2010 to 2016 and wasn’t brought back for 2017. All Folk did in his seven seasons with the Jets was make 192-of-230 field goals (83.5 percent).
Then came the Patriots, who signed him in 2019 after he was out of football for nearly two years. All he did for the Patriots was make 108-of-121 of his field goals (89.3 percent) before being replaced by a rookie draft pick (Chad Ryland) who lasted a year in New England.
