New video shows Amon-Ra St. Brown swinging at Daron Payne first

It seems it’s usually the responders who get caught.

A new video has emerged showing Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown hitting Daron Payne prior to the Commanders lineman punching the receiver during Sunday’s game, which resulted in Payne’s ejection and a one-game suspension.

Payne allegedly posted the clip to his private Instagram account with the caption, “Oh ok.”

The commotion happened in the second quarter with the Lions driving to take a 19-point lead in their eventual 44-22 road win.

This new angle showed Payne and St. Brown standing side by side when the defensive lineman shoved St. Brown out of the way.

St. Brown responded by extending his arm toward Payne, who seems to deflect the motion.

Payne then got in St. Brown’s face, and the Lions star clearly hit Payne in the head area, causing his helmet to slightly move while a referee attempted to break up the commotion.

Several plays later, after Detroit scored to take a 22-3 lead, Payne saw St. Brown walking toward him and struck the receiver with his right hand, resulting in his ejection.

St. Brown admitted he said something to Payne during the sequence.

The NFL later suspended Payne for one game without pay and upheld the one-game ban upon his appeal, per ESPN.

St. Brown acknowledged a skirmish between the two before the punch, although he did not mention that he struck the defensive lineman.

“I think two plays before that we got in a little scuffle, back and forth, whatever, this that and the other,” St. Brown said after the Lions improved to 6-3. “We end up scoring and I go up to him, I say a little something, nothing crazy, and he decides to swing on me. It is what it is.”

Payne will miss the team’s Week 11 game against the Dolphins in Madrid and will return in Week 13 against the Broncos on “Sunday Night Football.”

Losing Payne is another blow for a Washington team without star quarterback Jayden Daniels and top receiver Terry McLaurin in what has been a disastrous year.

The Commanders entered the season with high hopes after last year’s unexpected run to the NFC championship game, and they are currently 3-7.
