New ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Trailer Blows Up Claire’s Backstory With an Epic Time-Traveling Twist
Starz unveiled a brand new trailer for Outlander: Blood of My Blood today that reveals the prequel series will serve up a massive twist for the overall Outlander saga. Outlander fanatics already knew that the upcoming show would reveal how Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) own parents met and fell in love against the respective backdrops of World War I and early 18th century Scotland. However, it seems that Claire’s parents, Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield), might have more to do with Highlands history than we could have ever guessed. In fact, the new Outlander: Blood of My Blood trailer confirms that Claire’s parents might have met Jamie’s??? (WHAT?)

The new trailer for Outlander: Blood of My Blood reveals that Claire’s parents did not tragically die in a car accident, as we’ve long been told. Instead, they survived the crash and found themselves lost in 1714 Scotland. Yes, Claire’s parents traveled back in time to when Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) fell in love. Everyone in this family can freaking time travel!!!
The latest Outlander prequel trailer opens in much the same way the very first episode of Outlander does, with an early 20th century couple canoodling on vacation in the Highlands. This time, however, it’s not Claire and first husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), but Claire’s own parents, Henry and Julia. After their car crashes, Julia finds herself waking up by the iconic Stones. She asks a servant in period garb what day it is and soon learns it’s a Saturday in 1714.
Next, the trailer jumps to Brian and Ellen’s story. As the two attractive young Scots get to know each other, we learn that Brian’s last name is a problem. Ellen’s powerful Laird father detested Brian’s, kicking off major Romeo & Juliet vibes. We then get to literally watch Julia advise Ellen to go to Brian anyway.
There’s a montage of swoon-worthy embraces, horses riding across highlands, jealous gazes, al fresco fisticuffs, and men in uniform rushing into various historic battles. Oh, and there’s a hint of a sex scene. At least one sex scene. (Will there be more?!? This is Outlander, after all!)
Now, besides teasing a show where Claire and Jamie’s parents not only meet, but also directly influence each other’s stories, this Outlander: Blood of My Blood trailer also blows up the backstory of one Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser. Ever since we’ve known Claire, we’ve known that she was orphaned as a young girl and raised by her eccentric Uncle Lamb. The revelation that Claire’s parents didn’t die is bittersweet, and very Outlander. After all, Roger (Richard Rankin) learned last season that his father (Nicholas Ralph) suffered a similar fate. He was presumed dead, but actually traveled back in time.
Are you now stoked for Outlander: Blood of My Blood? Still wondering how one family tree can have so many time travelers? Curious if this twist will somehow explain what happened to Baby Faith?
To keep up to date with all things Outlander, you’ll just have to tune into Outlander: Blood of My Blood when it premieres on Friday, August 8, only on STARZ.
