New Movies on Streaming: ‘Song Sung Blue,’ ‘Dust Bunny,’ + More

This week’s new movies on VOD include a few truly original movies that are guaranteed to entertain. First up, there’s Song Sung Blue, the musical biopic that stars Hugh Jackman and Actor Award-nominated Kate Hudson as a Neil Diamond tribute band. There’s also the wildly inventive new action-fantasy Dust Bunny, starring Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver and Sophie Sloan.

If you’re looking for something a little quieter, check out Rebuilding, a neo-Western drama starring Josh O’Connor as a divorced young father who reunites with his ex-wife (Meghann Fahy) and daughter after a wildfire destroys his ranch. Amy Madigan and Kali Reis also co-star.

Song Sung Blue stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as Mike and Claire Sardina, a real-life married couple who formed a Neil Diamond tribute band in the 1980s. The Neil Diamond music alone would be enough for me to want to see this thing, but to add to it, it’s also a complex study of a couple struggling as they deal with some major setbacks while trying to follow their dreams.

In the dark fantasy Dust Bunny, Mads Mikkelsen plays a hit man for monsters. When his young neighbor hires him to kill the monster that she believes ate her family, he takes the job, only to encounter some very real killers in the process. The film is the feature directorial debut of TV showrunner Bryan Fuller, who previously created Pushing Daisies, Hannibal and Dead Like Me.
