Nets’ Michael Porter Jr. spending $200-250 a day on Ubers

Somebody needs to show Michael Porter Jr. how to use the subway. 

The Nets’ offseason acquisition revealed in a sit-down with YES Network during the team’s media day that he takes Ubers around New York to the tune of $200-$250 a day. 

“I’m recently getting acclimated to the city, Porter said before being asked how traffic has been for him. 
“The traffic is tough,” he continued. “I shipped a car out here, I was thinking, can I drive? I ended up being like no. The $200-$250 a day of Ubering is worth it out here. New York is different, but I’m adjusting to the city. I live in a really good area, a peaceful area. Probably 10 minutes-15 minutes down the street from here, so I’m enjoying it so far.” 

The prospect of taking ride-sharing everywhere you go sounds like an expensive one, though Porter likely can afford it more than the average New Yorker. 

Porter, who is set to make $38 million this season, was traded to the Nets in July as part of the deal that sent Cam Johnson to the Nuggets. 

Brooklyn is expecting to make Porter the focal point of its team going into the new season, especially with a young roster. 

Nets coach Jordi Fernandez described him as an “elite shooter” during media day on Tuesday. 

“The good thing is I have a previous relationship with him, and that makes it a little easier for me. But I am going to ask him to do things he’s never done before, and for those reasons I think he’s up for the challenge,” Fernandez said, per the Associated Press.

Porter is coming off a year with the Nuggets in 2024-25, where he averaged 18.2 points on 50.4 percent shooting from the field and 39.5 percent from 3-point range.

Porter made some waves during the offseason following controversial comments he made during his podcast and on livestreams, which took shots at the WNBA and others that drew claims of misogyny and homophobia.
