Needing a leader in the worst way

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Jets dropped to 0-4 with a 27-21 loss to the Dolphins on Monday night. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:

1. I’ve covered many losing efforts at Hard Rock Stadium (and under various other names). Whenever I am in the visitor’s locker room there, I think about the first game I covered there. It was the final game of the 2011 season and the Jets lost to miss the playoffs for the first time under Rex Ryan. Santonio Holmes had been kicked out of the huddle as the rifts on the team became apparent.

LaDainian Tomlinson gave one of the most impressive postgame interviews I have ever seen. He stood in the middle of the room for what feels like 30 minutes in my memory. He addressed all the issues on the team directly and gave advice to Ryan and the team moving forward as he was retiring. You could see what kind of leader Tomlinson was and how his words carried weight with his teammates.

The current Jets don’t have that guy.
