Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman pledged to hire more cops and boost a collaboration with ICE if democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City mayoral race.
Blakeman, a Republican who is up for re-election this month, made the pledge in an effort to woo residents of the borough’s to the island, his spokesman said.

“In the unfortunate event of a Mamdani win, [Blakeman] will hire more police officers, increase cooperation with [US Immigration and Customs Enforcement], and actively encourage people and businesses to move to the safest county in America,” spokesman Chris Boyle told The Post.
Boyle didn’t provide any further details when asked how the county would ramp up its controversial partnership with the federal government.
Nassau’s current deal — signed in February — has rankled Democrats and sparked lawsuits from activists in contrast to municipalities’ pro-illegal migrant “sanctuary policies.”
The county has deputized 10 detectives to work alongside ICE and held 3,000 detainees in its local lock-up to contribute to the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
Blakeman’s Democratic challenger, Nassau Legislator Seth Koslow, has cowed to end the deal if he unseats the Republican front-runner.
Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, is the front-runner in deeply blue New York but is facing an independent bid from ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
