Mom’s non-negotiable travel rules have parents applauding
Many parents take precautions when it comes to traveling with children.
For one mom, she prepares by laying some ground rules. Three in particular.

The mom behind the Instagram account, wctriplets, admits they might be controversial to come, but they work super well for her and her clan.
Let’s do the math!
First things first is she has the kids crunch numbers. Quite literally.
“It doesn’t matter where we are, in the Cayman Islands, in Washington D.C, or in our own home. Every single day of Summer vacation, my older boys do one math worksheet,” she revealed in her video.
The sheet she provides is always for the grade that they will be going into once the school holidays are over.
“I want them to feel really prepared and excited for the year ahead of them,” she explained.
Her second rule is to improve directional awareness and problem-solving.
“I make them navigate everywhere we go,” she said.
From walking around tourist areas to a resort. The kids are in charge of the direction.
“If this means we waste some time going in the wrong direction, then so be it,” she shared.
“I want them to be able to navigate for themselves as they continue to get older.”
She also notes the pride her kids feel once they arrive at their destination, knowing that they got there because of them.
Her final one might raise eyebrows, but the mom can’t see why.
“I don’t think this should be controversial, but I have seen a lot of parents roll their eyes or give me dirty looks when I have my kids do this,” she begins.
“Anytime we go somewhere that there is a set rules outside, I make my kids read the rules.”
“Learning these skills would have definitely helped me!”
Rule boards that can be spotted outside water parks or playgrounds become reading material for her kids. It helps with reading and comprehension, but also comes with a hidden bonus.
“If I have to correct them for any reason while we’re engaging in whatever we’re doing, I can say ‘hey, did you read the rules?’ and they will know that what they’ve done is in violation of the rules that everyone has to follow,” she reasoned.
It makes it easier to encourage a change of behavior, without the kids feeling a certain way about it. Because everyone has to follow those rules.
Despite her assumption, the rules weren’t considered controversial in the slightest.
In fact, comments were all for the ideas.
“You are doing a wonderful job with your children. Only people with limited vision for their children will take issue with your rules,” one person praised.
“Honestly great, sounds like equipping them to be adults,” another agreed.
A third added, “I have a horrible sense of direction as an adult. Learning these skills would have definitely helped me! Love it.”
At the end of the day, even the ‘strict’ rules we set often come from a place of love and preparation. The goal is the same for all parents: raising safe, capable, and kind adults.
