The Phillies and Mets square off for Game 2 of a critical four-game set Tuesday night.

After Nolan McLean started Monday’s 1-0 loss, the Mets turn to Sean Manaea as he matches up with Ranger Suarez.

Manaea has faced the Phillies quite a bit during his tenure as a Met.

The southpaw has fallen on hard times of late, pitching to the tune of a 5.60 ERA in nine games after working through many injuries.

However, Manaea actually pitched pretty well against the Phillies in an abbreviated start earlier this year in which he struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings in an eventual 6-5 walk-off win Aug. 26.

That was Manaea’s only strong outing in recent weeks, as he’s given up at least four runs in five of his last six outings.

Manaea has a 4.13 ERA against the Phillies as a Met, which began with him completely changing his delivery to serious success in 2024.

This year, it appears that either an injury or a scouting report has gotten out on Manaea, leading to some struggles.

Manaea’s underlying stats do not paint a very rosy picture of his last start, as his average exit velocity against in that game was 92.9, above his season average of 89.9.

The Phillies will be without one of their top players in Trea Turner, so that’s a bit of a boost.

But regardless of how you slice it, I suspect a higher-scoring game Monday night.

The Mets’ offense is red hot right now, scoring 66 runs in their last 10 games entering before Monday’s shutout, which ranked second in MLB.

Target the Mets and Phillies to go over 8.5 runs in Tuesday night’s matchup.
