Missouri sports betting is set to go live in Missouri on Dec. 1, officially becoming the 39th state with legal online sports betting.

Nine major operators have received temporary licenses from the Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) and will be available statewide on mobile and online platforms.

Missourians can begin signing up with sportsbooks on November 17, when operators are also expected to launch a wave of pre-registration welcome offers.

Is sports betting legal in Missouri?

Missouri became the 39th state to legalize sports betting when voters approved Amendment 2 in November 2024, following years of stalled legislative efforts and border envy.

After the federal ban on sports gambling was overturned in 2018, most states moved quickly to regulate betting. Missouri lagged behind — even as nearby Kansas legalized sports wagering in 2022, attracting droves of Missourians crossing state lines to place bets.

Some of the state’s pro sports franchises, including the St. Louis Cardinals, helped push the ballot initiative forward in 2024, arguing that the state was missing out on tax revenue and fan engagement opportunities.

The measure narrowly passed, but the rollout took time.

A hoped-for March Madness launch in early 2025 was shelved after Secretary of State Denny Hoskins rejected emergency rules, saying there was “no true emergency.”

The MGC then opted for a deliberate application process, approving nine sportsbooks and several retail partners leading up to the December 1 launch.

When can Missourians start sports betting?

November 17 is the key pre-launch date. Starting that day, residents anywhere in Missouri can:

• Pre-register with any licensed sportsbook

Despite early speculation, the MGC confirmed that anyone in Missouri — not just those near casinos — can sign up and wager once betting goes live.
