The gutsy performance comes after the competitive eating queen smashed the women’s world record last year — guzzling down an impressive 51 hot dogs at the annual Fourth of July competition and becoming the first woman to eat more than 50 franks.
An ambitious Sudo said after her big win that she “let the fans down a little” because she didn’t break her own record.
“For some reason, the buns felt larger today,” she added.
But she was able to bask in her victory.
“I wasn’t the fastest out of the gate, but I’m known for my consistency so that really wasn’t a concern of mine,” she said. “I guess I refused to lose, I refuse to give up and when I do stumble, I get right back up so here we are for the 11th time!”
Michelle Lesco, the 2021 champ, came in second this year with with 22.75 hot dogs and buns.
Sudo, 39, has been the eater-to-beat in the women’s bracket since she first competed back in 2014, winning every competition she’s been in, racking up 11 pink belts.
She stepped away from the contest in 2021 while she was pregnant.
