He and the Dolphins parted ways Thursday after four seasons and a disappointing 7-10 record this past year.

“After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change. I informed Mike McDaniel this morning that he has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement.
The Dolphins began the season 1-6, with their lone win coming over the lowly Jets before closing the campaign 6-4, including a four-game winning streak.
Miami lost star receiver Tyreek Hill to a season-ending torn ACL in Week 4 against the Jets.
But it wasn’t enough to save McDaniel’s job.
He went 35-33 with two playoff appearances, but no playoff wins in his four seasons.
“Coaching this team and being a part of this great franchise has been the honor of a lifetime,” McDaniel said in a statement. “When I took this job, I had a vision of a team that was bonded together and played with passion and energy on the path to winning championships. I gave everything I had for that goal. I am disappointed, especially for the fans, that we did not have better results on the field, but I am grateful for every coach, player, and staff member who poured themselves into that vision alongside me.”

McDaniels, 42, remains an intriguing candidate as he is believed to be one of the top offensive minds in the game and has never won fewer than seven games in a season.
The Titans are coming off a 3-14 campaign behind rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
He threw for 3,169 yards, 115 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while completing 59.8 percent of his passes.
Tennessee’s offense ranked just ahead of the Raiders for last place in yards per game at 259.6 this past season.
The Titants fired head coach Brian Callahan after a 1-5 start and a 3-14 record the prior season.
McDaniel could be looked at as someone with the capability to unlock Ward’s potential.
