Mets’ Jeff McNeil among candidates with trade interest

LAS VEGAS — The Mets are fielding trade inquiries on Jeff McNeil, and with just one year left on his overpriced contract, combined with a decent 2025 performance in which he showed new versatility, there’s interest among other clubs.
While McNeil recently had thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, as The Post’s Joel Sherman reported, he’s expected to be ready for spring training. However, some teams may want to see him perform beforehand.

McNeil was having a very nice offensive season before the injury occurred and he finished hitting just .125 over his final 20 games, dropping his average from .266 to .243, as the Mets’ fortunes dived. His OPS also dipped precipitously, from .814 to .746.
The Mets are looking to upgrade their defense following a disappointing year in the field (and otherwise), and McNeil probably lost half a step at second base (-3 defensive runs saved overall). However, in a paradox, he probably improved his marketability by showing he was serviceable in center field, too.
