Mets confirm Griffin Canning’s ruptured Achilles in injury blow
PITTSBURGH — Griffin Canning’s season is over.
The Mets right-hander was diagnosed with a ruptured left Achilles on Friday, a day after he was helped off the field during his start against the Braves.

Canning was placed on the 60-day injured list and Blade Tidwell was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to take his spot in the rotation.
Canning was enjoying a breakout season with the club, in which he pitched to a 3.77 ERA in 16 starts for the team.
The Mets signed Canning last offseason to a one-year contract worth $4.25 million.
Tidwell, 23, has started twice for the Mets this season, most recently in Philadelphia last Friday, and pitched to a 9.82 ERA.
Canning joined Sean Manaea, Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill among Mets starting pitchers on the injured list.
In other roster moves, Jared Young was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse with Mark Vientos returning from the IL.
Also, Austin Warren was optioned and the Mets recalled lefty Colin Poche.
