Pictures show Adams taking a puff under the dim purple mood lighting at the lounge during a relaunch and ribbon-cutting celebration — an event that was also attended by his estranged confidante Winnie Greco.
Adams’ spokesperson said the visit was not connected to the Iran bombing and he had no knowledge of the guest list prior to the event.
“The Adams administration has slashed red tape to help our city’s small businesses and invested in their recovery after the pandemic – and it’s working,” a City Hall spokesperson said.
“New York City has more small businesses than ever recorded in city history, and one in five small businesses open today started during the Adams administration,” the spokesperson added. “In keeping with our mission to support and uplift small businesses, Mayor Adams is dedicated to attending as many events as possible that celebrate them.”
Adams’ visit to the Persian establishment came shortly after the U.S. conducted what President Trump called “monumental” airstrikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, directly involving the US in the conflict between Israel in the Middle East.
The Mayor posted a statement to X shortly after the airstrikes.
“Learning of the U.S. bombing of three sites in Iran. While we await more details from our federal partners, we’ve ordered the NYPD to increase its presence around religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites throughout the five boroughs. Thinking about our large Persian population here in NYC at this time.”
