Maurice DuBois Announces Exit From ‘CBS Evening News’: “It Has Been The Honor Of A Lifetime”

CBS Evening News anchor Maurice DuBois announced he is leaving the nightly news broadcast, just weeks after his co-anchor John Dickerson announced he would also be stepping away from the network.

DuBois’ announcement means the CBS broadcast will be left without anchors manning the desk unless the network moves fast.

DuBois announced he will be leaving Dec. 18, writing on social media, “It has been the Honor of a Lifetime. 21 years altogether, including my time at WCBS-TV in New York City. What a privilege! To be welcomed into your homes night after night, delivering the news / meeting extraordinary people and telling their stories.”

His statement continued, “I’ll leave filled with gratitude, cherished relationships and amazing memories. A couple weeks to go; until then, see you on The CBS Evening News every night at 6:30.”

Tom Cibrowski, president and executive editor of CBS News, praised DuBois’ work on the network in a statement.

“Maurice has long represented what we do best at CBS News and Stations.” Cibrowski said. “For more than two decades, he has delivered the day’s biggest stories from our studios in New York and in the field. Later this month, Maurice will leave the network. We are grateful for his significant contributions, at both CBS News New York and the CBS Evening News. Maurice is deeply valued and respected as a journalist by all of us and we wish him much success.  It is my hope that we can work together again.”

Dickerson is also set to leave CBS News at the end of the year.

He announced the news in October, writing on social media, “I am extremely grateful for all that CBS gave me — the work, the audience’s attention and the honor of being a part of the network’s history — and I am grateful for my dear colleagues who’ve made me a better journalist and a better human. I will miss you.”

Dickerson and DuBois co-anchored the CBS Evening News since January.

It’s reported the evening broadcast will be getting an overhaul under the new CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and the new Paramount owners.

It remains to be seen who will replace DuBois and Dickerson at the desk. Weiss reportedly has been “trying to poach” talent for the network recently.
