Marc Lasry asks $42M for his NYC penthouse

A magnificent Central Park West penthouse in a building immortalized in “Ghostbusters” has hit the market for $42 million.

The sellers are Cathy and Marc Lasry, the billionaire financier who reportedly lost an opportunity to be President Obama’s Ambassador to France after he had allegedly been tied to a Russian mob-run poker and money-laundering ring in 2013, as The Post reported at that time.

That year, Lasry — who denied the claims — bought the penthouse duplex at 55 Central Park West, a landmarked building in the Central Park West Historic District, for $33 million, according to property records.

“I love playing poker,” Lasry said. “I’ve played it since I was in college. I think what ended up happening there, whether you play golf or basketball, you play with people you don’t know, and obviously some of the guys I played with ended up having issues. So I think that was a bit of bad luck obviously on my end that I ended up playing with those guys. It is what it is.”

The Art Deco building’s exterior was in the iconic 1984 film — made taller for it and with a quixotic temple placed on top. In the still-popular movie, the building was home to Sigourney Weaver’s character Dana Barrett, who was ultimately possessed by the spirit Zuul, a demonic entity.

Lasry bought the dwelling from music entrepreneur Stephen Gottlieb. Its past owners also include the fashion designer Calvin Klein as well as Hollywood producer Keith Barish, who famously traded a Jasper Johns flag painting for the palatial residence, according to a former listing from Douglas Elliman broker Raphael DeNiro. Barish produced films including “Sophie’s Choice,” “9 1/2 Weeks” and “The Fugitive.” He was also the co-founder of Planet Hollywood.

The 12-room spread is 5,000 square feet and comes with more than 2,200 square feet of outdoor space on the 19th and 20th floors of the building — with more than 300 feet overlooking Central Park. Designed by Schwartz & Gross, the building, which dates to 1929, sits between West 65th and 66th streets.

The home opens from a private elevator landing into a foyer on the 19th floor.

A large living room with a woodburning fireplace, plus a sitting room and a corner dining room, showcase stunning views of the park and city skyline. A terrace is accessed from the great room and a main bedroom, which features a sitting area with French doors that open to the outdoor space. The bedroom suite also boasts a woodburning fireplace, a dressing room and an ensuite bath.

There’s also an eat-in, windowed chef’s kitchen, a pantry/laundry room and a home office. Two additional bedrooms with ensuite baths are on the floor. A curved staircase leads upstairs to a double-height tower room with a wood-paneled library, 14-foot ceilings, a woodburning fireplace and a wet bar.

The 20th floor also comes with a solarium that opens to a corner terrace with views of the park.

The listing brokerages — Douglas Elliman and Compass — declined to comment, noting only that this is the first time the residence has been on the market in 12 years.
