Man who grabbed Ariana Grande on ‘Wicked’ red carpet charged



The man who charged at Ariana Grande at the Singapore premiere of “Wicked: For Good” is now facing the consequences.

According to BBC News, Johnson Wen, 26, has now been charged with being a public nuisance in Singapore.

He faces a fine of up to $2,000 ($1,540), if he is found guilty. 

On Friday, Grande, 32, remained in high spirits despite the scary situation. She posted snaps from the press tour on Instagram and wrote,  “Thank you, Singapore ♡ we love you.”

In multiple videos that went viral from Thursday’s event, Grande can be seen walking the red carpet with co-stars Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum.

Wen then rushes toward Grande and wraps his arms around her.

As the “Thank u, next” singer struggled to get away from him, Erivo, 38, rushed in to protect her. The actress placed herself in between Wen and Grande. 

Security then came to remove him. Grande looked visibly shaken from the incident.

Wen is an Australian who posts under the handle “Pyjama Man” on Instagram.

He frequently shares videos with over 11,000 followers about getting close to celebrities such as Katy Perry and the Weeknd. 

Wen posted a video of the incident with Grande, captioning it, “Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.” 

The comments blasted him. 

“Why is this person allowed to continually post videos of himself assaulting / harassing people?” one person wrote. “It’s distressing and disgusting and unlawful.” 

Another person wrote, “are you happy now? Does it bring you joy to disturb celebrities? That’s sad,” while another comment slammed him: “congratulations everyone hates you.”

A third person commented, “Dude this is not okay. Look how badly you scared her! You put hands on her. I sincerely hope you charged with something and banned from events.” 

On his Instagram Story on Thursday, Wen posted that he was “free after being arrested.”

On Friday, he appeared in court via video link, with no legal representation. Per the Singapore newspaper The Straits Times, he is expected to plead guilty on Nov. 17. 

Grande is currently on a world tour with the “Wicked For Good,” cast, which will wrap up in New York City on Monday. 

The movie hits theaters Nov. 21.
