Legends,’ ‘The Phoenician Scheme’ + More
Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, another of his star-studded ensembles, is new on VOD this week, along with the post-Cobra Kai film Karate Kid: Legends, and the latest film from body horror auteur David Cronenberg.
Cronenberg’s The Shrouds stars Vincent Cassel as a grieving widower who develops a technology that allows similarly bereaved people to witness the decay of their loved ones after they’ve been buried, leading some people to start abusing it. The film, the first Cronenberg has made since the death of his own wife, is one of his most personal to date.

Most of the Karate Kid movies have taken place in California – the San Fernando Valley to be specific – but Karate Kid: Legends brings Miyagi-do to the East Coast. Instead of the All-Valley Tournament, it’s the Five Boroughs Tournament. The newest entry in the enduring karate franchise stars Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, reprising their roles from previous films, to help an outsider named Li Fong (Ben Wang) with a gift for kung fu train for an upcoming tournament where, naturally, he’s the underdog facing stiff competition.
Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme has arrived to digital after spending this spring in theaters. The film stars Benicio del Toro as Anatole “Zsa-Zsa” Korda, a wealthy industrialist and arms dealer who has been the target of several assassination attempts. After one particularly close brush with death, he decides to make amends with his daughter, a nun named Sister Liesl (Mia Threapleton). The ensemble cast includes Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
