Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said Thursday that the extension was “just to make it clear that [Redick’s] the basketball leader in terms of our coaching and on-court performance.”

Pelinka didn’t reveal how many more years Redick had added on to that deal.

Before last season, Redick signed a four-year deal reportedly worth $32 million to become the head coach of the Lakers.

Redick, who retired from playing in 2021 after 15 seasons in the league, led the Lakers to a 50-32 record in his first season on the sidelines.

During the postseason, the Lakers were eliminated in the first round by the Timberwolves.

The new Redick contract adds to what has been a busy offseason in Laker Land.

The franchise signed Luka Doncic to a three-year, $165 million max extension that includes a player option for the 2028-29 season after the blockbuster trade with the Mavericks that sent him to Los Angeles.

The Lakers also made a bevy of additions to their rotation around Doncic and LeBron James, bringing in Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia.

Despite some offseason drama, James enters the 2025-26 season as a Laker after he opted into the final year of his contract.

“I feel like from a roster standpoint, we were able to address some goals,” Pelinka said of the Lakers’ offseason. “Getting a starting center, which was something we felt like was very important. Adding a couple of really good wings in terms of three-and-d wings in Jake LaRavia and Marcus Smart. Clearly, getting an extension done with Luka, in addition to having LeBron choose another year with the Lakers as opposed to entering free agency are all productive things for us as a basketball team.”
